MONIGA AND MANERBA, THE VALLEY OF THE ATHENIANS

Valtenesi is an incredibly beautiful hilly area, which slopes down towards the Garda Lake: comprising its borders are the gulfs of Padenghe and Salò. The name of Valtenesi also derives from “valley of the Athenians”: here, in fact, the Greek population took refuge, giving the name also to Manerba,

where the refugees are said to have built a temple to Minerva. Land of vineyards and olive groves, Valtenesi has two souls: the one known for its renowned wines (among them, Chiaretto and Groppello stand out as exceptional) and its olive oil, and the even more popular one of its artistic and naturalistic treasures. Manerba and Moniga can become an interesting itinerary to savour both of these aspects.

The report of Manerba e Moniga

The panorama that you can enjoy from the Fortress of Manerba is among the less “cluttered” on the Garda, from an architectural point of view.

It happens at times that the signs on the paths of the Park of Manerba are vandalised or hard to read.
